The Republic of Liberia and the State of Maryland today signed an historic Memorandum of Understanding marking the beginning of an official Nation and city State relationship. Liberia's Foreign Minister, Her Excellency, Sara Beysolow-Nyanti signed on behalf of the government of Liberia while Maryland Governor, Wes Moore signed for the state of Maryland.

Liberia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency Madame Sara Beysolow Nyanti, on January 28, 2026, held official consultations at the U.S. Department of State with Mr. Nick Checker, Senior Bureau Official at the Bureau of African Affairs.

The Embassy of the Republic of Liberia in Washington, D.C. hereby informs the public that, in line with the official announcement by the United States Office of Personnel Management (OPM) regarding the closure of Federal Government offices on Monday, January 26, 2026, due to severe winter weather conditions, the Embassy will also be closed on that date.

The U.S. Government has announced a temporary administrative pause affecting specific immigrant visa categories for nationals of 75 countries, including Liberia. This measure is linked to the application of U.S. immigration regulations, including public charge–related assessments and documentation requirements, and is not a country-specific sanction.
