WASHINGTON, D.C., October 20, 2026 – The Embassy of the Republic of Liberia today hosted senior executives of AvDyne AeroServices, LLC for discussions on opportunities to support the development and modernization of Liberia's aviation sector through investment, technical assistance, workforce training, and aviation infrastructure development.
The meeting was arranged through the offices of Dr. Thelma M. Awori, distinguished Liberian development leader, former United Nations Assistant Secretary-General, former Director of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Regional Bureau for Africa, and Honorary Consul General of Liberia in Uganda. The Embassy expressed sincere appreciation for Dr. Awori's continued efforts to connect Liberia with credible international partners capable of contributing to the country's development priorities.
AvDyne AeroServices is a United States-based Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) certified Part 145 repair station with more than 25 years of aviation industry experience. The company provides aircraft line maintenance, technical inspections, ground-support equipment services, and specialized aviation support at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, and Washington Dulles International Airport.
During the meeting, the AvDyne delegation presented the company's operational capabilities, highlighting its support for approximately 135 flights daily and a workforce of approximately 152 aviation professionals. Company representatives also emphasized the important role of the African diaspora within their workforce, including aviation professionals of Ethiopian heritage.
The discussions focused on AvDyne's interest in supporting the growth of Liberia's aviation industry through the establishment of an aircraft maintenance and pilot-training institution and the potential development of a Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility in Liberia. Such a facility would contribute to building domestic technical capacity, improving aircraft maintenance services, and creating skilled employment opportunities for Liberian aviation professionals.
During the engagement, Liberia's aviation priorities were presented, including efforts to strengthen aviation safety and regulatory compliance, modernize airport operations and ground-support equipment, expand domestic aircraft maintenance capabilities, and increase training and certification opportunities for Liberian pilots, technicians, and engineers.
The parties also discussed a potential Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) model under which AvDyne could develop and initially manage aviation facilities while progressively transferring operations, technical expertise, and management capacity to Liberian institutions and professionals. The approach would emphasize sustainability, capacity building, and long-term local ownership.
As a next step, AvDyne AeroServices agreed to prepare and submit a Concept Note outlining its proposed investment framework, technical scope, financing model, workforce development initiatives, and implementation strategy. Upon receipt, the Embassy will forward the proposal to the appropriate Liberian authorities, including the Ministry of Transport, the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority, and the Liberia Airport Authority, for technical review and regulatory assessment.
The AvDyne delegation was comprised of:
Dr. Jerome Hodge, President and Chief Executive Officer
Gabriel Christian, Esq., Chief Operating Officer
Captain Abiy Makonnen, Chief Commercial Officer
Gregory Hodge, Vice President
Gedeon Kidanu, Chief Technology Officer
The Embassy delegation included Mrs. Nyene-Yaba Freeman-Thompson, Minister Counselor for International Cooperation and Development.
The Embassy welcomed AvDyne's interest in Liberia and reaffirmed its commitment to facilitating partnerships that advance national development objectives through responsible investment, technology transfer, workforce development, and infrastructure modernization.
"Strengthening Liberia's aviation sector is critical to enhancing regional connectivity, promoting economic growth, attracting investment, and creating opportunities for skilled employment," Ambassador Conteh noted. "We look forward to supporting continued engagement between AvDyne AeroServices and the relevant Liberian institutions as discussions progress."
