Washington, D.C., September 16, 2026 — His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., President of the Republic of Liberia, met today on Capitol Hill with the Honorable Brian Mast, Chairman of the United States House Committee on Foreign Affairs and Representative of Florida’s 21st Congressional District.
The meeting reaffirmed the longstanding friendship between Liberia and the United States and provided an opportunity to exchange views on strengthening bilateral cooperation in support of democratic governance, economic opportunity, peace, and sustainable development.
President Boakai highlighted his Administration’s commitment to accountable governance, institutional reform, transparency, and the rule of law. He also underscored the importance of expanding opportunities for young people and women as central partners in Liberia’s development.
A dispatch from the Embassy of Liberia in D.C., signed by Minister Counselor Al-Jerome Anastas Chede Sr. said the two leaders discussed ways to deepen economic engagement and encourage responsible investment in priority sectors. Particular attention was given to the importance of reliable and affordable electricity, improved infrastructure, private-sector growth, and job creation. President Boakai emphasized that stronger partnerships in these areas would help unlock Liberia’s productive potential and improve livelihoods.
The discussion also addressed Liberia’s constructive role in promoting peace, democratic values, and regional stability in West Africa. President Boakai reiterated Liberia’s readiness to continue working with the United States and other partners on shared priorities that advance security, prosperity, and human development.
Chairman Mast welcomed President Boakai and the Liberian delegation and recognized the enduring relationship between the two countries. Both sides expressed interest in maintaining engagement and identifying practical opportunities to advance mutually beneficial cooperation.
President Boakai stated that Liberia values its historic partnership with the United States and remains committed to broadening cooperation that delivers tangible benefits for the people of both countries.
President Boakai was accompanied by H.E. Sara Beysolow Nyanti, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Dean of the Cabinet; Hon. Hadja Mamaka Bility, Minister of State Without Portfolio; Hon. Samuel Kofi Woods, National Security Advisor; Hon. Nathaniel T. Kwabo, Director General of the Cabinet; H.E. Al-Hassan Conteh, Ambassador of the Republic of Liberia to the United States; and other officials.
The Embassy of Liberia in Washington, D.C., will continue to support constructive engagement with the United States Government, Congress, development partners, and the private sector to deepen Liberia–United States relations and advance shared interests.
