Washington D.C., October 3, 2024. Liberia’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Administration, Honorable Gabriel Salee has reinforced the government's commitment to strengthening its diplomatic presence abroad.
Minister Salee made the statement during a meeting with Ambassador Jeff G. Dowana Sr., along with the diplomatic and local staff in the conference room of the embassy on October1, 2024. The meeting primarily focused on operational and structural challenges that have been impacting the Embassy’s efficiency.
In his address, Minister Salee expressed profound appreciation for the dedication and sacrifices of the Embassy staff, who continue to serve the nation under challenging conditions. He acknowledged the significant contributions of the staff in promoting Liberia’s interests in the United States and pledged additional government support to aid their mission.
**Commitment to Staff and Structural Improvements**
Minister Salee assured the Embassy personnel that the Foreign Ministry intends to dispatch more diplomats to reinforce the manpower capacity at the Embassy. “This is a vital step to ensure the Embassy operates with maximum efficiency and serves the interests of our citizens abroad effectively,” Salee emphasized.
Furthermore, Minister Salee reiterated the government’s commitment to the regularization of salaries, promising to address financial discrepancies that have been a source of concern for the staff. “I understand the financial strain and assure you that the government will do everything possible to address these pressing issues swiftly,” he said.
Highlighting the importance of professionalism, the Deputy Minister challenged the staff to continue their hard work and maintain the highest professional standards. He stressed the need for diligent efforts to overcome the Embassy’s operational setbacks.
**Inspection of Facilities**
Following the meeting, Minister Salee toured the Embassy grounds and the residence of the Deputy Chief of Mission. The goal was to assess structural damages that require urgent attention. The Embassy has been facing challenges with building maintenance, which has been a concern for staff performance and morale.
Earlier, Ambassador Jeff G. Dowana Sr., outlined the operational hurdles impeding the Embassy's effective operations after which Minister Salee listened empathetically to grievances from staff members. He acknowledged the concerns of the staff and promised to relay them to the leadership in Monrovia.
As Minister Salee returns to Liberia, the Embassy staff remains hopeful for immediate actions that will enhance their working conditions, help uphold Liberia’s diplomatic stature, and address the pressing challenges they've been facing.
