Washington DC. July 25,2023. The Embassy of Liberia near Washington DC in collaboration with the Friends of the Liberian Embassy (FOLE) and the Liberian Community Association (LCA) DC-Metro Area hosted a grand cultural Extravaganza to commemorate the 176 Independence Anniversary of Liberia. The program was held on the grounds of the Embassy near Washington DC on Saturday, July 22, 2023. It brought together hundreds of Liberians from the surrounding states of Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Maryland and the District of Columbia.
The Ambassadors of Guinea and Sierra Leone graced the occasion. Many vendors had Liberian arts and crafts and cuisines on display for purchase. Many local performers and Dance group including Musical super star Lucky Shango who flew all the way from Atlanta, Georgia thrilled the attendees.
In his Independence Day message, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Jeff Gongoer Dowana Sr. recounted the historic relations that exist between the United States of America and Liberia. He highlighted the resilience of the Liberian people during difficult times and commended the Liberian diaspora community for the positive role it continues to play in the growth and development of Liberia. Ambassador Dowana called on Liberians at home and abroad to continue to foster peace and unity during this election year and beyond. He concluded by reaffirming his believe in the popular saying: Once a Liberian, always a Liberian.”
A local staffer, Ananda Opul Jagoda was gowned and certificated for 10 years of invaluable services to the Embassy.
